do you know what learning medicine is all about? it is all about the test of endurance. ive learnt of this the other day as a mother shoved her coughing child into my lap for examination, coughing and sneezing deliriously away as i silently prayed that my recovering immune system would be strong enough to fight off yet another potential infection. i had been sick the days following my first paediatric oncall and i definitely didnt want to be sick again following subsequent ones.

last saturday, i also learnt that medicine is all about being conscientious. this realization dawned upon me as i sat mere half a metre away from my patient in an isolated room, as i seamlessly basked myself in whakawhanaungatanga with her. time elapsed before i finally learnt the very reason she was in isolation was because of her possibly infectious state; as she was positive for swine flu. argh! i cursed my lack of inquisitive nature as i should have flicked her clinical notes before i even stepped into her room like nobody's business. =__=" i should be more meticulous in my venture next time. Heh.

i will be oncall again tomorrow night - which will be my third acute for this attachment. i hope i will have the nice TI on again for tomorrow. Heh heh. ;)
