A story about a man that ate 21 pounds of grits made a headline at yahoo news today. Consuming 21 hell-load pounds of buttery grits in one sitting, all in the name of competition. Fast competition, fast money, fast fame. And probably fast living too. Haha.
Then again, that somewhat sound a bit 'healthier' compared to wolfing down fat laden, arteries clogging fried hotdogs in minutes - just to attain the so-called fame of being renowned as the world's champion human guzzler. Heh.

The very thought of such competitions irked me. Bizarre concept of championship, outrageous reasons to promote over-eating. Hah. It is not like obesity is not a world problem as it is. Do we really need more media attention to such competitions? Hoarding publicity, hollering fame and monetary incentives to those who won such competitions. Are they sending the right signal to everyone, especially to credulous youngsters?

And tell me - what is the big contest all about? What's the purpose? What's the big celebration? Testing stomach's capability and capacity? To discover the gifted ones who have maximum effectual gormandize superpower? (i.e. the gluttons.) -____-"
Hah.

yeah.. I sound like a killjoy - after all, such competitions bring so much joy and laughter and happiness to everyone involved.. right???? ladeedaa. Happy happy happy sunshiny smily smily smile - that is until one fine day, when you realize that you are no longer immortal like you used to, when you realize that eating pounds of butter or sausages to win you competitions sent you reclining in hospital beds, hooked up to alien machines, afraid, uncertain, not knowing what is going to happen next. Only then you realize that the measly amount of money that competition paid you were not even enough to pay your increasing hospital bills. And the fame? You looked around the room, empty. Hrm.

I just found this ironic. On one hand, there are people in the world who advocate for healthier living, spending millions to make sure people do live sensibly. Then there is this - such 'fun' competitions broadcasted to the whole world, featured in the world news headlines ensuring no one ever missed out on this story of just how much fun, how much cool such competition is - just like how much fame and fortune entails the winner. But few years down the track, is that still a proud achievement to the winner? Or rather, a liability.

Hrm, maybe I am not in the position to rant madly just how sickeningly stupid such and such are. Heck. Am not the healthiest person in the world, Ive got my own shares of dopey, health-risking habits. Anyway, my lukewarm kopi susu is turning cold, and I need to read some stuffs for tomorrow's class .. - more loss of rem sleep tonight.. >.<

oh oh. On another unrelated note, read that there is another suicide bombing in Pakistan - somewhere around Peshawar (If my geographical knowledge hasnt failed me, that location is somewhere bordering Afghanistan.. if I am not mistaken). This bombing, attacking, never let up, do they? Thats just sad.. Interestingly, the suicide bomber was a woman - just shows how much a woman is capable of dangerous action these days too. What with woman power and sexes equality and all - Hah. Bless them, the innocent bystanders..
What a contrast though, killed immediately by a suicide bomber or dying of a pitifully slow death from atherosclerosis complications in an affluent country. The former is a fate, the latter is more like a choice.
