Oh. Something interesting happened just after I got home last night. And I missed it. Argh. James was telling me all about it this morning.. since he was such an enthusiastic student who stayed in the hospital till very late last night - a patient (with suspected acute appendicitis) had apparently developed an anaphylactic shock last night, when she was under sedation (she was already on the operating table, preparing for her operation) - and that, naturally thrown the whole team into a frantic panic mode, complimented with the (senior) reg's incessant swearings. Heh.
This morning, all of us crowd in to see her at the ICU during the morning ward-round. Seeing her lying peacefully on the bed like that with tubes sticking in her arms and nostrils was a bit scary.. and later on that day, I went to the operating theatre with my reg for the patient's laparascopic procedure. Turned out, she didnt have an acute appendicitis after all, but something else that might be related to gynaecology. @.@ sigh. You can be wrong too sometimes.
This afternoon, a new junior reg arrived. Ann, James and I went with the new reg and our house surgeon and did the friday afternoon ward round (sort of preparing / revising for weekends plans for the inpatients). Maybe we were too enthusiastic of the whole venture, flying high as the new reg was joking (which is really a contrast from our senior reg who seemed to be so fulled of pent-up frustrations most of the time and cursing excessively).
We moved swiftly from one bed to another, from one room to another, from one ward to another, all energetic.. and at last, we barged into the last room, all 5 of us eager beavers, and I think we even chatted longer with that patient. (afterall, he's the last patient in our list)... =) ...
....only...
to see a horrified nurse as we stepped out of the room. Finally, she blurted out that the patient in the room was actually on quarantined. For vomiting diarrhoea. Erk. >.< Ann actually looked sick hearing that. Sh*t. Now, am only counting on my immune system to protect me from any sickening microbes that I might have picked up in the room. Argh. Sometimes, you can make mistakes too. :S
oh and just so you know. If you cant see me floating around the net this weekend, chances are Ive just made myself at home at the toilet. And that, the toilet hasnt an internet connection. :S
