Mellow Monday

Posted by Ujieka in

This morning, I was trying to be an octopus with 8 arms - each busy doing something from buttoning my clothes to wrapping my sandwiches for lunch to packing my bag to checking notes online. Heh. What a frantic morning - and in my haste, I didnt even manage to make my bedding. If there is one thing that I hate most in a mad morning like this (apart from missed breakfast) is seeing my crumpled sheets and thrown pillows on the floor, amidst all the other clutterings that managed to accumulate themselves during the weekends. Ugh ugh ugh. =.=

On the contrary, my morning at the hospital was crawling in a slow pace. Which was fine by me.. A friend and I used the extra time to practice inserting ivline onto each other. Alhamdulillah.. I got it in on the first go - I think I am slowly getting the hang of it, and that helps building my confidence a little. I walked back to the ward feeling all happy after our little practice session.. but only to have my confidence shattered the next minute - when I failed getting some bloods off an elderly patient. Sigh. >.< I think am still struggling with old old patients.

Afternoon was painfully boring - had teachings all afternoon. I fought my eyelids to stay open, I fought the urge to just fall and doze off on the table. Fortunately for me, at 2ish, the tutor didnt turn up and I made my way back to the ward, did a little ward round with my junior reg and house surgeon. My house surgeon was nice enough to offer his hands for me to practice my ivluer (and possibly taking arterial blood which would be damn excruciating than venous) - only I had to rush off to my 3.30 class. And by the time the class finished at nearly 5, I couldnt find him anywhere in the wards. Sigh. I guess I could just wait till the next time we are free.

Seriously, I do need the practice. Especially on elderly patients with multiple previous needle bruises, muscle wastings and fine veins. M looking forward to my ED shift this wednesday, I hope m lucky enough and have a lot of elderlies turning up at the emergency department needing bloodtests and ivlines inserted. And maybe requiring PR exams too.. ;) I hope.
