Woody Week.

This week was quite an interesting week. I started off on monday feeling like sawdust, useless and uninterested in whatever was going on. I was dusty; I forgot what I learnt, I forgot names of patients, I forgot how to discharge patients, I forgot which needles to use, I forgot medicine.

Then came tuesday and wednesday. Things were getting better. Instead of being useless pieces of sawdust, I was a cardboard with a piece of mind. I started to get my mind back around medicine world. Plus we had a number of new patients coming in too, which made the days more interesting.
On tuesday though, I saw a long-staying patient left. I felt weird writing his discharge note at that time, because I thought he would stay forever (which is of course silly of me to think of it that way, kan?). But he was already in the ward when I first came in during my first week, he was actually one of the things I got accustomed to in the homeward. And the next day, I remembered barging into his room calling out "morning Mr. X" (like Ann and I usually did) - only to stop in midsentence as I realized a frail woman sleeping in his bed. And I saw his radio was gone too..

Then yesterday during my team's acute day, I was a wood on fire - with enkindled enthusiasm. The day actually started fairly slowly. After the usual morning ward rounds and taking some bloods, there were pretty much nothing else to do. Ann had a clinic that morning, and James just disappeared into thin air. I bothered my house surgeon to give me something to do in the ward, but there just werent any. =.= He ushered me to the library - which was actually pretty much a waste of time I think, since I couldnt study anyway. After an hour of online surfing, I went back to the ward and caught my consultants and my reg. Saw more new patients. And I was actually reluctant to leave for my afternoon tutorial. Heh.

After the tutorial, things got awesome! ^.^ Acute was one of those days when I felt very very useful and very much part of the team. I helped admitting one patient yesterday though; did the history taking and examinations and took her blood. And as I tried presenting her case to my reg properly, I felt like I had came a long way since the first day I arrived in the ward. I felt great. =) And after the admissions and the wardrounds, my colleagues and I went to OT. I scrubbed in for one surgery. And by the time all the surgeries were done, it was already quarter to 1 AM. And I was still pumped up with excitement. I guess you just dont realize how fast the time flies when you are having fun!

Today is the last day of my 4th week. Sigh. I am left with just one short week in Mr.U and Mr. R team. boo! >.< Just when the consultants starting to warm up to us too. Honestly, Mr U used to intimidate me a lot, he was too damn serious. But lately (after the 3 of us started to hang around his clinics and surgeries and what-nots so much) he started to smile to us more than he used to. And he talked. to. us. AHAHAH. Man... it really is great to have the consultants to like you, eh. =p or even to notice you. That. Is. Hard. Work. Which is actually worth it.. because instead of being a little sawdust, now m a firewood. Maybe one day I can be as tough and useful as a brick. =)
